About Sydney Ann

Sydney Ann Johnson is an author, poet, and writer deeply committed to community and advocacy. From a young age, she has written poems and stories to convey her thoughts and emotions. She has stated that words and melodies would come to her mind, which she needed to jot down before forgetting them… this explains why you’ll never find her without a pen and a notepad.

Sydney Ann’s passion for literature and Black history inspired her to explore various socioeconomic challenges beyond their surface to uncover their true origins and causes. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in history from St. John’s University, and additionally self-published two collections of poetry after completing her undergraduate studies. In exchange, she has written several articles for various cultural organizations on issues concerning her faith, race, and mental health within the Black community.

Sydney Ann’s work is featured in Chicken Soup for the Soul I’m Speaking Now: Black Women Share Their Truth in 101 Stories of Love, Courage, and Hope. She appeared on the Chicken Soup for the Soul Podcast with Amy Newmark, where she recited her poem “Retail” on episode “Two Powerful Poems about the Black Experience That Will Make You Think.”

Sydney Ann is focused on assisting children in realizing and comprehending their immense value in the eyes of God. Her writing aims to inspire individuals from diverse backgrounds to embrace their true identity in Jesus Christ, who is the way, truth, and life.

God, The Great I AM is her debut children’s book, published by Our Daily Bread. She’s elated to share this beautiful message with children and their families worldwide. Jevon Bolden of Embolden Media Group represents Sydney Ann.

Sydney Ann is the eldest of four siblings between her cherished parents and hails from Lakeview, a small hamlet on Long Island, New York. She enjoys reading and expresses her creativity through art and writing, much like her late mother, June Hayes Johnson.
